Near Misses
03:31
|
|||
when I was 21
and life had just begun
I wasn't havin' any fun
so I drank up all the rum
they say that idle hands are the
devil's Xbox One, well
I was a Mario speedrun
I didn't see the point
stayin' in the same ol' joint
I packed a bag with clothes and a tent and a
copy of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
I'm sorry Mom, turns out I'm a hobo
you know you really shouldn't use that word though,
you might offend a wino
well I'm walking down the onramp singin'
songs you'll never hear
on the interstate hummin'
thumbin' through a land fear
as I waltz along the shoulder
I feel a windy kiss
for every near miss
callin' nowhere home
hedonism everywhere I roam
crazy people livin free or dyin'
none of 'em were gettin rich just tryin'
a lot of 'em who pick you up just wanna talk about Jesus
or whatever they think he was

||||
I used to dream
such magnificent dreams, oh
I used to dream
I dreamt of pleasures only dreamers know
and hung around places
only dreamers go
feel the water take you in
a river holds you
hear the canopy sing
down, condescending
see their eyes upon you now
lit by some strange sun

Never Been in Love
03:21
|
|||
it's springtime in paradise
everybody wants to get it on
well I just wanna eat my meal in peace
hey lovebirds,
could ya keep it down?
because I've never been in love
it's more than I can bear, I'd rather
be alone, and watch my own shows
we I tried, oh we tried
but in the end everybody cried
love hurts, that's all she wrote
that's why I keep my heart locked up like a treasure
behind a castle wall and a moat
and I've never been in love
it's more than I can bear, I'd rather
be alone, so leave me alone
if I had just one wish
I'd have been born a fish
so I'd never fall in love
never
and I would never remember
you

I'll tell you all a story
I'll tell you a musical tale
Bout a time in the 1920's
When old Jenkins got outta jail
He had a drinkin' problem
And was from a different age
But there was pure magic
When he hopped up on that stage
He could play that old piano
He could make that clarinet sing
There weren't no way to stay in place
Cause his music made you swing
All the folks clapped their hands
The ladies and gents took the floor
Old Jenkins was livin' it up
Cause it was what he was made for
Mr Jenkins
Played full throttle
Drove a model A
Though he drank
He was swank
And mercy could he play
Mr Jenkins sure could play
He drew in people from near and far
And the only reason he didn't show
Was when he was behind bars
Cause drinkin' was his foe
For fifteen years he made it
Until his car wrapped around a tree
The whole town was grievin'
For the loss of true majesty

I'm in a Fog
02:30
|
|||
laundry piles
project files
let me call you right back
kitchen sink
I don't think I'll ever
be on track
kitty litter
baby sitter
stopping for gas now I'm late
kill me now cause
this is how I live
ain't that great?
cause I'm lazy
and I'm tired
and I haven't had any coffee
now I'm hungry as a dog
can I please go back to bed?
cause I can't today
I'm in a fog
where are the keys?
there's the parking lady
writing a ticket just for me
what are you looking at, well
you just got triple sat and
every table brought a baby
well it just won't stop
but I need to get off
wanna wake up from this terrible dream
somebody rescue me
cause I'm sick and tired
of being so damn
lazy
and tired
I haven't had any coffee
I'm also hungry as a dog
may I please go back to bed?
I can't today
I'm in a fog

Somewhere
03:04
|
|||
Somewhere over the rainbow we’re free to be
A place their vicious minds can’t touch our love
Cause near you I feel alive at last
And nothing can change it
And nothing can change me
Now I know why you fear this
You never thought you heart could be free
And we remind you of this
But we’ll be closeted no more
We will live and love

Every Night
03:06
|
|||
every night I swing and I miss
I'll grow old just waiting for this
will I ever get it right?
I hear pounding on the floor
feel it all but I don't know what to say
wanna know what I don't know, oh
the devil has me whinin' again
still waitin' for that light to shine from the past
the moon
is waning, I'm waiting
feel it all but I don't know what to say
wanna know what I don't know, oh

Thrown Away
02:50
|
|||
I did what I did
when I was just a kid
I didn't know I would end up like this
living in a hell
a number in a cell
invisible inside the abyss
I was just a kid
I'm just a number
just a shadow
of somebody nobody remembers
but I'm waiting
for my time to come
I can't undo these crimes I've done
I'm waiting for a life to live 'cause
you threw me away
and when I'm my bed
I'm singing in my head
a song to carry me away 'cause
dreams were denied
and I only exist
for profits and stock lists
I'd buy my freedom but
the price is too high
just a kid
just a number
just a shadow
of somebody nobody remembers
now I'm waiting
for my time to come
I can't undo these crimes I've done
now I'm waiting
for a life to live
'cause you threw me away

Pull on Strings
02:47
|
|||
I live in a shabby little shanty in the woods
I don't even know how I got here
but I wake up every day and I
peer out the windows
and pull on strings
I never leave, well, I haven't yet 'cause
it doesn't seem I'd get back in
there's no door but that's ok
I can fly this little thing
when I pull on strings
pull on strings
yeah
what I want I can only see
this prison couldn't hold it
it wasn't meant to be
I live in my mind
in an organ in a
skeleton shell
and I pull on strings
pull on strings
well this will have to do
but nothing is forever, thankfully,
I'm sheltered from the weather of the universe
and the reason I stay so long
is to pull strings
as I pull on strings

Ypsilanti Water Tower
02:45
|
|||
back in 1890
I was erected where I stand
and at 147', I'm not the biggest but I'm grand
and back in my day
you were yearly rated
for every bathtub and faucet I facilitated
but not anymore, I'm no reservoir
I'm just a pile of limestone
but there's a secret in my core
in my core!
but they say I'm
just for looks but they don't know
I'm a landmark but I'm so much more
well my daddy, Billy Coats
he had a vision of a tower
and they built me in his image
for the water and the power
but not anymore, I'm no reservoir
I'm just a pile of limestone
but there's a secret in my core
in my core!
but they say I'm
just for looks but they don't know
I'm a landmark but I'm so much more

Born to Win
02:36
|
|||
some people are winners
some people are meant to be dinners
gonna tell you what makes the world turn
99% of people workin' they'll never learn
born to win
born with everything
I'll never lose
gonna write the rules
born to win
gonna finish first
don't make it worse by trying
what'd you say
you want your fair share?
who told you
I would make the world fair?
I'm on top of the tallest towers
and look at you down there
you don't know how small you are

I'm in a Frog
03:05
|
|||
I was buzzin' by the pond
where I was spawned
but then I was gone
something hit me in the air
something swallowed me right there
I'm in a frog
now I know
what it was like for Pinocchio
I wish I didn't though
and if this is how I gotta go
I guess there's no tomorrow
well that's apropo
something hit me in the air
something swallowed me right there
I'm in a frog, yeah
now I'm in insect afterlife
where there's no pain and no strife
in insect afterlife
something hit me in the air
something hit me in the air
something swallowed me right there
it swallowed me right there
now I'm in a frog
I'm in a frog
I'm in a frog
I'm in a frog
I'm in a
frog
